A Final Look Back at the 2005 Season Redux

When I originally wrote this 4-part series back in October this blog was getting only a fraction of the visitors it is getting now. I wanted to share these with those of you that didn't catch it the first time around. I really enjoyed writing about these 13 games that I felt were the highlights of the season.

A Final Look Back at 2005 Part 1

  • April 10 -- Pedro beats the Braves for the Mets' first win
Pedro Martinez pitches a complete game in Atlanta to end the 5-game losing streak.
  • April 15 -- Who the hell is this guy?
Former whipping boy Aaron Heilman piches a 1-hitter against the Marlins.
  • May 21 -- Mr. Koo vs. The Big Eunuch
Tim McCarver declared it one of the great mismatch at-bats of all time, and indeed it was -- for Randy Johnson.
  • June 11 -- Cliff's Improbable Home Run Beats Anaheim
Because sometimes you have to hit 2 home runs in an at-bat to get a win...

A Final Look Back at 2005 Part 2

  • July 10 -- Pedro bails the Mets out again
Salvaging one in Pittsburgh before the all-star break.
  • July 17 -- How's that Atlanta School System, Mike?
Hampton takes a beating as Pedro salvages a split with the Braves.
  • July 23 -- Reyes runs Mets past LA
Jose shines on national TV vs. the Dodgers.
  • August 6 -- The Return of Jae Seo
The prodigal pitcher returns from the minors to defeat the Cubs.

A Final Look Back at 2005 Part 3

  • August 20 -- Woodward bails out the pen
Woody's walk-off salvages a game where Graves & co. squander an 8 run lead.
  • August 26 -- Trachsel Returns
Steve Trachsel comes off the DL to shut out the San Francisco Giants.

A Final Look Back at 2005 Part 4

  • August 30 -- High Water Mark
Castro's home run beats the Phillies; Mets 1/2 game out of wildcard.
  • September 18 -- Glavine goes the distance
Mets score 4 runs on 4 pitches as Tom Glavine goes 9 and beats Atlanta.
  • September 26 -- Repaying the favor
Mets put a hurting on the Phillies wildcard hopes with a come-from-behind victory.
