Odds and Ends

Just as couple of quick items of interest:

Mets.com: David Wright Chat
Marty Noble reports that David Wright will be participating in an on-line chat at MLB.com, this Thursday afternoon at 2:30 pm. Noble quotes Tom Glavine on what it is, beyond mere skills, that sets Wright apart:

"He's just special in every way," says Tom Glavine, who draws parallels from former teammate and one of the game's premier gentleman, Dale Murphy, to the Mets' 22-year-old third baseman.

Moreover, Glavine reserves the highest and simplest praise for Wright. "He gets it," the veteran pitcher says.

Yes he does.

AP: Royals looking at Mientkiewicz
The Royals are attempting to sign former Met Doug Mientkiewicz. According to GM Allard Baird:

We definitely have an interest and we are pursuing it. I do not get the feeling that anything is imminent.

For a while this season I considered Mientkiewicz refreshing and rooted for him, but I tired of his "I suck" act long before he badmouthed the Mets at the end of the year. If he had even a reasonable offensive season the Mets might have at least contended longer for the wildcard.

A nice change of pace
Forgive me for wandering off topic, but a reader of this blog recently gave me a link from his blog. He is not a fellow Mets blogger, though he had a really nice posting on Mike Piazza. He told me that he was a "Mets fan in exile on the west coast."

I read some of his blog out of curiosity, and wound up getting hooked on it. The blogger, who is not Simon Metz and not Moe Berg, either, works in the entertainment industry and shares some interesting stories about celebrities.

More than that though, his deceptively stark writing style and gift for telling a story work perfectly, even just sharing simple moments with his family. At times funny, at times surprisingly touching -- in other words, it's all a personal blog should aspire to be. If you want a break from crazy improbable Manny Ramirez rumors, check it out. It's in my link bar under the name Schlitzie.

  • Not a problem -- although I did stay up way to late reading your stuff one night. But I forgive you -- it was a nice break from semi-fabricated Mets trade rumors.
